At Innofarmer Tea we take great pride in our excellent quality, very tasty and wonderfully aromatic tea that we offer customers worldwide. We have had the absolute pleasure of sharing our tea with folks in Taiwan, Canada, the USA and countries throughout Europe. One very important characteristic of our company is that we focus on our knowledge and thorough understanding of each and every type of tea that we offer our customers.
While we don't offer a great number of teas like some other large-scale stores and boutiques, we take great pride in the fact that the teas on offer are studied and researched thoroughly. It would bring us great pain and anguish if a potential or current customer asked us a detailed question in which we either didn't have an answer to or, at best, a partial answer without the greatest of confidence.
So let's take you on a tour of the teas that we offer either through our online site or our growing list of marketplace shops throughout Toronto and beyond.
Oolong Tea (or Wulong Tea)
Our Oolong Teas, like most of our offerings, come from a small village in Taiwan called Ming Jian Village, Nantou. While this area is not considered to be "High Mountain", the quality and flavour of the tea is breathtaking.
Oolong Tea can offer a light, fresh taste - Chin Shin Oolong Tea - and a strong, roasted flavour - Dong Ding Oolong Tea. Dig a little deeper and you will discover a very beautiful Oolong that goes by the name of Red Beauty which has a distinct flavour similar to the Lychee fruit - sweet with a hint of sour notes.
Oolong Teas makes a wonderful addition to most light flavour meals and can also be enjoyed as a midday treat or a compliment to any dessert. Rolled tightly during the processing stage, when mixed with hot water and left to sit for a minute or two the leaves unfurl to release the very distinct Oolong Tea flavour. Online Store
The Black Tea leaf compliments most desserts and can also be enjoyed throughout the day. Add a dash of brown sugar or honey and you have a tea that stands above the rest. Our Black Tea is dried into long, flavourful leaves that open up emitting a wonderful smell that pulls you closer to the cup with each and every sip. Let the tea linger in your mouth an extra second or two to allow the full flavour - delicately sweet - to make it's presence felt.
Compliment this tea with a fresh salad or dark chocolate dessert and you will discover a very unique Black Tea very different from many found in China, India and even Taiwan. Online Store
Ginger & Brown Sugar Cider
Our Signature drink, Ginger & Brown Sugar Cider, has been a very big hit in Toronto and through other parts of North America. As the cool Fall months turn to the frigid Winter months, there are very few drinks that compare in taste, warmth and prevention than this gem of a cider.
Proven to prevent illness and sooth the worst of colds and flu, this delicious Cider offers a wonderfully spicy kick with fresh and plentiful ginger alongside the sweet flavour of brown sugar. Add a spoonful or two of milk/cream and you've got the perfect winter comforter.

This past Saturday I ventured on the TTC down to Bloor & Yonge where my new tea guide, Rita, would be meeting me for an afternoon of tea and conversation at a local shop Tao Tea Leaf (www.taotealeaf.com). I arrived to find Rita, two of her friends, Katherine (who works at Tao) and Mr. Tao Wu waiting for me and waiting to get started on what would turn out to be a fun-filled (and first experience in a Toronto tea shop) 3 hours. Fun-filled it was!
After our initial meet and greet, I sat down to my first taste test for the afternoon. In fact, we only had time for two tastings as Mr. Wu was welcoming two groups from Buffalo, NY, who heard through word of mouth about his store and wide selection of high-quality and great tasting tea. (By the way, the two groups left with both hands full of tasty treats and notebooks full of valuable information!)
The first tea we dove into is called Green Pu'erh. This Pu'erh was harvested in 2007 and had a light, yet lovely taste to it. Unlike most Pu'erhs that I have tried, this one was very light in color - similar to a Dong Ding Oolong. This tea was grown in Yunnan Province, China, and can be found in LinCang located not far from where it was grown.
The second tea we tried is a 2010 Pu'erh which was grown in JingMai, which is also in Yunnan Prov., China. This Pu'erh looked and tasted very similar to the ones I have tried before - and enjoyed! And did I ever enjoy this wonderful, woody and aromatic tea. Delicious! This Pu'erh, as with many if not all, came from a very ancient tea tree which looks very similar to your average tree (which is in stark contrast to the standard tea bush which is usually shorter).
The day wouldn't be complete without a visit from a member of the Tea Association of Canada and instructor for the Certified Tea Sommellier online course (French version). I had many questions for Raymonde and she was more than delighted to answer them all for me. I better not hesitate for much longer - the Tea Sommelier course starts on September 16 and I have yet to enroll!
Well, our visit to Tao Tea Leaf was everything that I expected. Relaxing, warm and full of wonderful convesation with NEW friends! Thanks very much to Rita (for organizing this greet and meet), Mr. Tao Wu (for sharing his two types of Pu'erh), Katherine (for keeping the hot water flowing) and Raymonde (for answering my endless number of questions).
Now it's onto another location to make some new friends and try some new teas!

Just before leaving Taiwan I took the opportunity to meet for the last time (well, for about 1 year) with one of the farmers that Innofarmer Organic Tea works with and a close friend who also shares a love for tea. Sean, our farmer and Alex (who lives in Taipei) met my wife, son and I at a local tea shop that dates back a dozen decades if not more. The setting could not be more perfect to try yet another wonderfully delicious and silky smooth tea that I just know many people will come to enjoy sometime in the near future and beyond.
As you will gather from some of the pictures below, we were allowed the opportunity to sit in a very quiet, calm and relaxing environment. What was considered to be traditional and the environment necessary to enjoy the company of friends, we were surrounded by coy fish, wooden spacing and an intricate layout of private dining areas. All that would be required to make the morning complete was some fresh water boiled to perfection. Oh, and some wonderful tea leaves to infuse in Sean's favorite tea pot.
Sean, who has been farming on his family tea plantations for many years, is always on the hunt (in a creative sort of way) for the excellent tasting tea and more attractive tea leaves. Tea isn't just a wonderful tasting beverage that offers a laundry list of benefits, but it also attracts a sense of artistry and beauty. The leaves that he produces - along with the flavour - is unlike many other types of tea that I have had the opportunity to explore over the years. So it was with this initial eye-catching pleasure that I tried the tea which he calls Hang Mei Ren Tea, Red Beauty Tea (or Black Tea).
This Black Tea has a slightly stronger flavour than traditional Black Teas. The colour is a spectacular auburn that resembles a deep rosewood, offering up a wonderful fruity smell. As always, enjoying this tea with close friends in the proper setting makes this tea - and just about every other - something very special and incredibly desirable.
After a laid-back and easy morning it was time to head back out into the world to complete our packing and final arrangements before our quickly approaching departure date to Toronto on August 8. As is often forgotten in times of stress and busyness, "With the old and departed comes the new and delightful."

Yesterday, we shared a special Tea Outhing No. 5 with our very good friends from Taichung City, Taiwan. Some familiar faces, and a few new ones, came out to our final Tea Outing in Taiwan before Innofarmer Organic Tea moves to Toronto, Canada. It was definitely an enjoyable afternoon filled with good conversation, laughable moments and, of course, some delicious tea.
I would like to thank those who came out yesterday and to those who came out to some or all of our Tea Outings No. 1 through 5. We look forward to sharing our excellent tasting and healthy variety of tea with friends from around the world.
Next stop: Toronto, Canada (which also includes the rest of North America and beyond!)
Growing up in Canada I had the pleasure of enjoying many warm, beautiful summers filled with bicycle rides, trips to the Canadian National Exhibition and more baseball games than a boy my age could imagine. Winters also included an endless number of outdoor activities that were both fun and exciting. To say the least, I enjoyed my childhood.
Most nights as a child I would prepare for sleep-time with a book, completing my homework and brushing my teeth in the interim, and also following my parents around the house as they also descended into their regular night time routines.
While my Mother rarely (if ever) drank a cup of tea before bed, I could always find my Father sipping away on a cup with Lipton or Red Rose. Don't get me wrong: I'm not going to write with a negative tone toward those two types of tea and their underlings. However, I will have to say something about the maturing process and the discovery of great tasting tea.
Now that I am a father and have discovered what I consider to be some top notch tea, I want my son to share in the wonderful experiences and feelings that good quality and great tasting tea can bring to a simple get-together of friends or just for yourself. Still, I don't want to share with JUST my son - - I want to share with the entire City of Toronto and beyond.
Beginning in August 2013 (the 5th to be exact!), Innofarmer Organic Tea - Canada will be bringing some of Taiwan's finest teas to the streets, parks, shops and just about anywhere else that folks like to sip on tea. We will be exploring various types and flavours of tea from month to month in parks and shops scattered throughout Toronto.
